Hear Me Out-Stories for Schools about Equity and Inclusive Education
All students, parents, and members of the school community are to be respected!
"Equity and inclusive education aim to understand, identify, address, and eliminate the biases, barriers, and power dynamics that limit students' prospects for learning, growing and fully contributing to society (Equity and Inclusion in Ontario Schools, 2009).
Through shared and committed leadership, it is our role to identify and eliminate biases and barriers to discrimination.

Measuring Aboriginal Learning
In an effort to better understand Aboriginal learning, government, Aboriginal organizations and communities are building a new framework and developing policies around the Aboriginal perspective on learning (The State of Aboriginal Learning in Canada, 2009). Following this direction, The Economist via Zite writes, "Many First Nationers want to be free to adjust the curriculum to include their own language and culture while still meeting official standards" ("These Schools Are Our Schools", October 19, 2013).

Leadership in Learning Communities
Google Image |
In the Capacity Building Series, "Professional Learning Communities: A model for Ontario Schools", we are reminded of 6 foci
1. Ensuring Learning for All Students
2. Focus on Results
3. Relationships
4. Collaborative Inquiry
5. Leadership
6. Alignment
As a member of the Special Education Technology Committee and through my work with our Itinerant Technology Resource Teachers I have wonderful PLC opportunities. Our responsibilities include leadership roles and focusing on student success. A summary chart can be found on
Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession and Ethical Standards for the Teaching Profession.
Ongoing Professional Learning
The current standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession (rev. 2010) includes direction on "Ongoing Professional Learning". I have recently enrolled and completed a course in Integration of Information and Computer Technology -Part 2 and am currently working towards my Specialist in the same area of study.
As part of my "ongoing professional learning" I have attended two conferences in the month of August -The Upper Grand District School Board Learning Fair and Geneva Centre and plan to attend several others over this school year. However over the next few weeks, I am registered to attend Educational Computing Organization of Ontario, Ontario Council of Administrators in Special Education and Council for Exceptional Children.
I am looking forward to gaining knowledge in technology and special education and collaborating with colleagues on how we can bring this to our practice.
